Quatrefoil Design In The Home

Quatrefoil Design In The Home   You might not have known what to call it, but we can bet you’ve seen the quatrefoil design throughout the world of home décor and interior design.   Stylish, sleek, and a happy marriage between traditional and contemporary, quatrefoil seems to work in just about any home design. If you’re looking for visual intrigue that can easily complement other design elements — this two-toned pattern is definitely one to consider.   What exactly is the quatrefoil?   A popular ornamental motif found in architecture and fashion, the quatrefoil consists of four, partially overlapping, symmetrical circles of the same diameter. In Latin, the root of the word means “four leaves.” Although it feels super fresh and contemporary, the quatrefoil has actually been used throughout history, with its peak popularity occurring throughout the Gothic and Renaissance eras.   You can find quatrefoils in famous landmarks such as Notre Dame in Paris, the Reims Cathedral in France and the Doge’s Palace in Venice.   Many feel that quatrefoils symbolize harmony, symmetry and proportion — often conveying a feeling of good luck and fortune.     How do I incorporate quatrefoils into my home?   This timeless architectural pattern can work throughout the home, whether it be in the form of a tiled backsplash, or simply an accent pillow. For a larger design impact, the quatrefoil pattern has proven to be a popular and stylish choice for carpeting.   At Rite Rug Flooring, we have a selection of quatrefoil-patterned carpet that can effortlessly enhance any room. Either wall-to-wall, or simply as an area rug — this time-tested design will be relevant for years to come.

We’re springing full speed ahead into summer — the pools are cool, and the barbecues are hot! But along with the burgers and hot dogs, comes the accidental ketchup squirts and beer spills. Not to worry though — when it comes to safeguarding your carpet against the summer BBQ, we’ve got you covered.

   BBQ Sauce & Ketchup Stains

That dark red spoonful of sticky condiment can be a scary sight on your lush carpet. Luckily, stain removal can be as easy as taking a deep breath and grabbing a butter knife.

Start by gently scooping up as much as you can from the carpet using the butter knife. Then to treat the excess, use a mild solution of warm water and non-bleach detergent. Gently blot the area, starting from the outside edges and moving towards the center. As always, remembering not to rub. Beer

There’s nothing quite like a cold brew on a hot day. Except, of course when that cold brew lands on your carpet. A common spill at the family BBQ, start by using clean paper towels or a white cloth, and blot up as much of the spilled beer as possible. Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water, and blot the stain frequently with a dry cloth until the stain disappears.
Finish by using cold water and blot dry to remove the solution. What happens if the stain is still visible?  If your BBQ stain still lingers, don’t panic — that’s what the experts are for. Simply hire an IICRC-certified and CRI-approved carpet care professional like Rite Rug to tend to any BBQ stain disaster this summer.

4 Tips for Caring For Your Floor This Summer

Now that spring-cleaning is over, and summer has finally arrived — it’s time to take that extra step in properly caring for your floors.   These long sunny days and breezy summer nights present the perfect opportunity — and these tips will ensure your floor’s longevity and durability for years to come.  Vacuum and Sweep Regularly  Summer’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle brings a smorgasbord of unwanted dirt and allergens into your home. Because of this, high-traffic areas can always benefit from a daily sweeping. A quick sweep will work wonders in reducing dust particles and more. Of course regular vacuuming is also key — for both carpeting and hard surfaces. This will protect the finish of your flooring, and ensure clean air and happy noses.   Shake Out Area Rugs  Area rugs are frustrating culprits when it comes to collecting unwanted dirt and dust. For rugs that can be carried — bring them outside! This will help loosen dirt particles for more effective vacuuming later on.  Use a Dehumidifier & Air Conditioner High levels of humidity can take a toll on the shine and color of your flooring. However, the use of a dehumidifier and air conditioner can greatly help in decreasing humidity, and increasing air circulation — thus preserving your flooring’s original luster for years to come.  Protect Flooring From The Sun  Just as you protect your skin from harmful UV rays, it’s important to protect your flooring as well. Over-exposure to sunlight can cause discoloration, making your flooring look years older than it actually is. Don’t worry though, you won’t need special floor sunscreen — simple blinds and curtains do the trick!
Prepping Your Home To Sell This Season

Ask any real estate agent, and they will tell you that Spring and Summer are considered the “hot” seasons to sell your home. This should come as no surprise, as most families want to purchase and be settled in time for the new school year.  If you're getting ready to sell this season, it’s a smart idea to make some small improvements that can greatly improve the salability of your home. For the most part, improvements need only to be simple and inexpensive — but buyers will undoubtedly notice the difference!  Clean Things Up  It may seem obvious, but dust and dirt can be a real turnoff to prospective buyers who are looking for their “new" dream home. To make a great impression, consider having your flooring and window treatments professionally cleaned to freshen up the space.  You should also take some extra time to de-clutter. Not only will this help with the sale, but it will also help with your move! Clear old clothing from your closet rods and show off some floor space. Also, don’t forget to tidy your pantry and kitchen cabinets.  Give Your Bath a Bath  Everyone loves a beautiful, serene and clean bathroom. But even if yours is less than updated, there are some small fixes you can do for big impact with buyers.  If your toilet seat cover is old and discolored, replace it with a new one (it's inexpensive and very easy). Change out your shower liner and curtain for something new and neutral. And for a really big impact, have your tub recaulked — it won’t go unnoticed. Let The Sun Shine In  There's nothing like great natural lighting, so be sure to keep draperies light and airy, and of course — open! Replace any missing or dim light bulbs, and try to avoid unflattering florescent lighting whenever possible.  Do Some Touch-Ups  You might love your green bedroom, but it's safe to say not all buyers will feel the same. Give your home a fresh coat of paint in a neutral grey or beige. There's nothing quite like it to easily revamp a room — and luckily it's extremely affordable.  There are many other small 'touch-ups' you can do around the home that are easy and inexpensive. Consider changing out dated hardware on cabinets, and tossing those decade-old vertical blinds. You'd be surprised how much impact a brand new clean doormat can make!  Make Your Floors Fabulous Again The floors in our homes take a serious beating, and if yours look worn or outdated, it will likely have an effect on the salability of your home. If you're opting for an update, it's always smart to keep new flooring neutral so that it will appeal to a wide range of buyers. Also, it's a great idea to consult with your realtor to determine what type of flooring is most desirable in your neighborhood.
Rugs on Wall-to-Wall Carpeting

Rugs have the ability to anchor a space, provide dimension and add that much needed pop of color to an otherwise neutral room. So the question is, what do you do if your space has wall-to-wall carpeting? It seems like this is an ever-present question when it comes to design, but our experts believe that when done right, area rugs placed over carpet have the potential to create a super sophisticated aesthetic. Check out these helpful tips on navigating your design plan...   Play With Texture When layering, consider varying textures. A plush and patterned accent rug atop a more traditional neutral carpet will create an intriguing focal point. The rug can create and define living spaces, all the while adding an interesting flair to the room. Alternatively, a more neutral area rug is a great way to break up an already boldly patterned carpet.   Pop Some Color The right area rug can provide your space with a dose of color or exciting design element, however it’s important to remember that your wall-to-wall carpeting is still there too. Try to select a rug that complements and does not combat your existing carpeting color for a more harmonious design.   Shape It Up Area rugs that vary in shape can work wonders in tricking the eye. Small room, big room, or awkwardly configured — evaluate your space and play with shapes to change the overall ambiance. Round rugs and animal shaped rugs can really change the feel of an otherwise boxy and boring carpeted room.   Keep Things In Place One worry about area rugs is that they will shift or wrinkle atop existing carpeting. Luckily, rug-on-carpet pads are made specifically for this reason. An easy and quick solution, this really is no worry at all.
