5 Cozy Winter Decorating Ideas

As temperatures drop and holiday cheer rises, we’re bundled up and ready to bring some warmth back into the home. We’re making a list and checking it twice — these are our top tips for decorating this winter season.

Layer Up!

Just like winter fashion, winter decorating is all about layering. From blankets, to draperies and even slipcovers —textured layers add warmth and winter vibes to an otherwise neutral room. Consider cozying up your dining room chairs with classic white slipcovers for a white wonderland effect, and utilize faux fur throw blankets to add an extra layer of comfort to your sectional after a big holiday meal.

Fa La La Flooring

We love our hardwood floors for their sophisticated year-round style — but it’s time to spice them up for the holidays!  A fluffy area rug will add warmth and texture underfoot, or for a unique style statement, consider layering rugs! An earthy jute area rug looks ski-lodge chic when paired with faux sheepskin.

Pillow Perfect

Add a few extra throw pillows for a quick winter style update. Playful plaids and statement pillows with metallic touches stand out against wood flooring and neutral soft furnishings. Be careful to choose accent pillows in colors and patterns that match your existing decor to ensure it all works cohesively.

Warm Up Windows

Functional and fabulous, thick draperies add luscious volume and vibrant color without the permanence of paint. Not to mention, they’re brilliant at blocking out chilly winter drafts! Try juxtaposing rich fabrics with neutral woven wood shades for a luxurious and elevated look.

Seasonal Scents

Our winter decorations would not be complete without adding a little something extra to delight our noses. Luckily, a fragrant bowl of potpourri in a wintry scent (think cinnamon and vanilla spice) will do just that. Alternatively, you can always cozy up with a winter candle. We all look a little better in candlelight anyway…
