Eco-Friendly Flooring For Your Home

Eco-Friendly Flooring For Your Home

We’ve said goodbye to plastic straws, and hello to reusable shopping bags — but have you ever considered going green with your flooring?

As more and more homeowners are seeking out eco-friendly materials to incorporate into their homes, manufacturers have stepped up in their commitment and development of beautiful, sustainable, flooring options.

These are a few of our favorites…

A naturally renewable material, cork is made from the bark of the cork oak tree, which grows back after being harvested. It provides insulation against heat and cold, it’s hypoallergenic, and is naturally repellent to bugs, mold, and mites.

Linoleum is a resilient, eco-friendly flooring material made from all-natural, renewable materials. Linoleum is known for its durability, lasting 25-40 years, and comes in a huge selection of colors and patterns. Best of all, it’s super low maintenance. Just a sweep and a damp mop, and you’re good to go!

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors have a timeless appeal that makes them an elegant and sustainable option. Oak floors are widely considered to be one of the most sustainable choices because U.S. forest protection programs ensure these trees are regularly replanted in forests. Additionally, oak has a smaller carbon footprint and releases fewer toxic emissions during the manufacturing process than other options.

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants with a harvest cycle of just 3-5 years – thus making it extremely renewable. Bamboo comes in a variety of styles, and can be a cost-effective and stylish alternative to traditional hardwood floors.

You might not have considered carpet as an eco-friendly option, but lucky for your feet — it is! You just need to know what to look for. Wool carpet has been around for centuries, and for good reason. Wool is a natural resource spun into a thread that can be dyed any color imaginable, and then woven to create a carpet.

Polyester (PET) is another sustainable carpet to consider. It is made of recycled plastic bottles, resulting in an extremely durable, long-lasting carpet that contributes to a cleaner planet. It’s spill resistant and comes in a variety of styles.
