Custom Stair Runners

Although stair runners have been a classic stairway covering for many years, they are currently one of the hottest in-demand flooring additions. A stair runner not only adds beautiful detail to enhance your home and but it also offers great traction for the safety of your children and pets.

What is a Stair Runner?

Unlike carpeted stairs, a stair runner is bound carpet that does not cover your entire staircase, allowing several inches of your flooring to show on either side. And as a stair runner is typically installed over hardwood or tile, it protects your stairs so that they do not require refinishing while allowing the beauty of your stairs to be seen.  .

Besides its stylish good looks, a stair runner also has practical benefits. It is typically installed with a thin pad underneath so that it is soft underfoot, great for noise reduction and provides excellent traction for kids and pets. Best of all, our stair runners can be cleaned and vacuumed just like our carpet, making them the perfect solution for busy households.

Choosing the Right Stair Runner

Some classic stair runner style options include patterned sisal, small or medium geometric design, large-scale pattern, animal print, and stripes but the possibilities are truly endless. There are some materials to avoid including extremely thick plush which could cause safety issues and silk or linen which may not stand up to the wear and tear of a busy household, but with the vast number of high traffic carpet options available, you are sure to find one that is perfect for your style.

When it comes to installation, there are a several options:

Waterfall installation: allows the carpet to cascade down from the tread without being secured to the riser. This can create a stunning effect. Typically used with thicker carpets, this is the most common method of installation because of its clean look.

Hollywood installation: tightly wraps the nose of the stair, and the carpet is stapled underneath it.

Since every home is different and there are numerous staircase configurations, you will want to work closely with one of our Flooring Experts to review your options.
