Area Rug as the Anchor
The right area rug plays a key role in anchoring a room. Start by thinking about the color scheme you want to go with. Do you want your rug to set the tone for a new aesthetic, or complement existing decor?
Area Rug Colors and Patterns
If your furniature is primarily is a solid color, consider selecting a patterned rug. Playful animal prints and modern geometric styles can make a bold statement in an otherwise simplistic space. But if your furniture is the patterned star of the show, you might want to opt for a more subtle color, and perhaps utilize texture to add depth. Use other soft furnishings like throw pillows and draperies to tie colors together throughout the space.
Area Rug Sizes and Shapes
When designing a custom area rug, keep in mind that it should be proportional to the space that it will be in and should echo its dimensions. If your room is large, your rug should be large, if it is long and narrow, the rug should be oriented in the same way. If you need help visualizing, use painter's tape to mock-up the rug placement and help to determine the perfect solution. Irregular size or shape? Don’t worry about it!
