Keep Your Carpets Looking Great Even with Kid and Pets

From juice spills, to crushed goldfish crackers, and arts and crafts gone awry — kids can do a number on carpets. Couple in your furry kids, and it’s safe to say our carpets are put through the wringer. But that’s okay — homes are meant to be lived in, and we have some tips to help keep your carpets looking great year after year.

Vacuum Regularly

To extend the vitality of your carpets and rugs, it’s important to keep the dirt out. Dirt makes your carpet appear dingy, and even a few days of build-up can weigh down your carpet’s fibers and make them appear older than they are.

Spot Clean

When it comes to stains, time is of the essence. You need to spot clean right away to prevent stains from seeping in. Scrape or blot up as much of the stain as you can on the first go, and then use a spot cleaning solution. You might need to do this a couple of times for really tough stains.

Rearrange Furniture

It’s a good idea to move your furniture around every so often to prevent the carpet from being compressed for long periods of time, changing the look and feel of the carpet in those spaces. It also helps to prevent potential sun damage outlines on your carpet. Try to switch things up every six months or so, and use it as an opportunity to really clean those hard to reach spots under the couch.

Leave Shoes At The Door

Ditch your outside shoes at the door. Shoes collect dirt, germs, gum, animal waste, and other gross stuff that we’d rather not think about — especially in our carpets! Slippers are way more comfortable anyway.

Have Carpets Professionally Cleaned

Carpet should be professionally cleaned every 12 months as part of regular maintenance. You wouldn’t skip getting the oil changed in your car, so why skip on your carpet care?
